How to identify and handle if your sod is dying.
Warranty Expectations
What’s Covered: Landscaping is not covered under warranty on its own, but if we disturb sod, seed, or bushes during a warranty-related repair, we’ll restore those areas. This applies within the first year after settlement. [Van Metre Life]
What to Expect: We’ll restore impacted areas by replacing sod, seed, or bushes, but an exact match to the original landscaping isn’t guaranteed.
How We’ll Help: If a warranty repair affects your yard, we’ll take care of restoring the disturbed area.
How You Can Help: Maintain your lawn, water new sod or seed, and care for shrubs to keep your yard looking its best.
Lawn Care
- First 30 Days (Warm Weather)
- Water deeply every other day to support root development.
- Check soil moisture: Lift a corner of the sod, underneath should be damp, not muddy. [Surface Drainage]
- Hand-water edges and corners; they dry out faster than the center.
- Winter Note (Dec–Mar)
- Sod goes dormant during cold weather. Watering is not required during this time.
- Be advised that using de-icing chemicals can damage your lawn adjacent to driveways and walkways. [Concrete and Asphalt][Snow Preparedness]
Tree & Shrub Care
- Watering Schedule
- Hot Weather: Every other day
- Cooler Months: Once per week
- Dry Winters: Watering may not be needed
- Staked Trees
- Leave support stakes in place for at least 12 months to allow proper root anchoring.
